A metric that has been formally designated as a key measure of organizational, departmental, operational, or strategic performance against a defined objective or expected outcome.

Description

KPI represents a governed performance measure used to evaluate progress toward an important organizational objective. A KPI may be based on a single metric or a combination of metrics and may have defined targets, thresholds, reporting frequencies, and accountable owners. Not every metric is a KPI. A metric becomes a KPI when the organization explicitly considers it important for evaluating performance or supporting a significant decision.
